When You Go Fishing
When you go fishing: Tell someone where your going to be. Know what time your leaving and what time you expect to be back. Do not wander around once you get there. Always take fresh water. Be sure to carry sunscreen with you. Always wear a life jacket in the boat. Never swim alone. Never dive into a place if you don't know how deep it is. Check the water before you go in. Be careful handling fish you catch. Fins can produce nasty cuts and get infected. Wash thoroughly if you are horned by a catfish or cut by a fin. Use antiseptic or soap and water. Always use pliers to remove fish hooks. Never clean fish where you are camping. Wild animals will be attracted to the scent. Some animals have rabies, they are dangerous. Never try to pet wild dogs or animals, they can bite you and cause serious injuries. If you see a snake avoid it. Leave it alone. Do not poke snakes with sticks. Do not feed wild animals. Always know what time it is. Know the weather forecast. Always watch out for lightning on the lake if you see clouds. Be aware of your surroundings. Know the way to town, the direction. Do not lock pets in cars. Tie them up outside of the car, if you have to. Make sure they have food and water. Never put fish into the car or pick up with you. Always put them in the trunk or bed. Protect your eyes. Carry a flashlight. If you fish at night a small fire can help you see and will repel insects. Use insect spray for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can carry disease. Ticks can carry diseases too. Never eat wild berries or mushrooms. Be safe. Don't take chances around the water. Accidents can happen without warning. Avoid accidents by being aware. Do not wrestle or horseplay around the shoreline or on the boat. Be a good fisherman. Respect nature and the wild. Leave your site as clean or cleaner than you found it.
